French club begins!

This past Thursday the Grade 7/8 class had their first session of French club! We thoroughly enjoyed our fondue and the grand variety of items for dipping, which included bacon-flavored chips, popcorn, cheese, three different types of biscuits, fresh and dried golden cherries, bananas, oranges, marshmallows, pretzels, cucumbers and dried mulberries, to name a few!  Thank you to everyone who contributed to our fondue session, including the toothpicks to make dipping easier!

Bon appétit!
God shows us how good He is through all the different flavours He has created for us to enjoy and discover.

Do I dare try this?

This coming week we will enjoy La bûche de Noël during our second French club session. Stay tuned for more pictures from French club!

All students will be practicing the oral questions and reading passages related to the units under study.

Bonne semaine!

Sushi, en français!

Our Grade 5/6 class has been studying vocabulary and structures in our food unit the past four weeks and we have been applying our learning specifically to the creation of sushi! This is especially relevant as one of our classmates is currently visiting Japan and we have been wondering how much sushi he is enjoying!

We have had a chance to put our learning to practice while making sushi this past Thursday as well as last Friday, April 13.

On Thursday, we used our class popsicle sticks to randomly choose our chef.

We used the sentences we learned in this unit to give our chef the instructions, en français,
of course!

Our chef takes the first bite for quality control; we all had an opportunity to sample the sushi afterward if we wished. Bravo, chef!

All French classes this week had vocabulary quizzes. The grade 3/4 class has started their mini-project in their pizza unit. The Grade 7/8 class will be learning vocabulary and structures related to foods as well during French club which starts this upcoming week.  Please remember to bring in your permission slips as soon as possible.

Have a blessed week. Bonne semaine!

Fashion re-creations

As I promised last week, here are the photos from our Gr. 7/8 fashion show which featured the fashions and accessories created from repurposed fabrics and materials. Great job, Gr. 7 and 8! As we held this event during lunch hour, we started off with some food.

The pizza was delicious!

Cookies were decorated with the letters "L A   M O D E" to spell out "fashion" in French, thanks to the creative efforts of one of our class members!

We also enjoyed some very delicious homemade pumpkin-chocolate chip mini-muffins baked by one of our classmates as well as some yummy double chip chocolate cookies.

The fashion catwalk is ready thanks to the efforts of our decorating committee.

Gym bag

Students modelled their fashions or accessories as a classmate (or Mme Christensen) read the written description of each creation.

We are missing one photo: a lovely apron was also created by a member of our class.
Great job, everyone!

This week the Gr. 7/8 class will continue learning and practicing vocabulary for their unit, "Aventures en plein air".  Grade 5/6 students will continue to learn and practice vocabulary for our food unit and will get a chance to make and sample some sushi! Gr. 3/4 students are continuing to learn vocabulary to talk about their preferences in pizza.

Quizlet Megastars!

The Grade 5/6 class has been doing a superb job learning vocabulary in our Quizlet for our new food unit which gets us ready to follow a recipe for sushi!  Our Quizlet teaches the vocabulary and its pronunciation and then tests us on our learning through evaluations and fun games. Feel free to try this for yourself--just look at the right side of this column and click on Gr. 5/6 Quizlet: le sushi. Great job, everyone!

Before Spring Break, the Gr. 7/8 class finished their fashion unit but we did not have time until this week to have our fashion show. The photos from this event will be posted in next week's blog. This week, the Gr. 7/8 class also began their new unit, Aventures en plein air, during which we will look forward to summer and learn vocabulary related to outdoor activities such as camping. We will be researching a treasure that God has blessed us with here in Canada, our national parks.

Our Grade 3/4 class has started a pizza unit; we have been busy learning some yummy vocabulary!

Bonne semaine,
